Easy cost Planning & Network Costing

Dear All

In one Project can we use both Easy cost Planning & Network Costing. Easy cost planning is generally used when you have structure with WBS only. Network cost planning is a combination of group of activities, all these having their relevant cost elements/ work center combination. can we manage both this in one project. If it possible please explain in detail.

What is your business requirement ? It depends on that. Yes your understanding is quite correct. We use easy cost planning in the initial phase of project. Easy cost planning can be done in various versions including 0 plan / actaul version. If you does easy cost planning in 0 along with network costin you will double up lannning cost.

Network costing can only be done in plan / actual version 0 only.

Best approach is to use easy cost plnnaing as rough cut level apart from 0 version. And use network costing. However it may very a/c to business requirement.

Dear Nitin

So you want to say that we maintain both planning method in one project .

for eg - easy cost planning at initial stage on WBS level for 1,2.... version so it can calculate rough plan cost & after use network coasting for detail plan is it like that.

Dear Nitin,

Thank you for your reply

Scenario is PROCESS OF PERFORMING THE SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION CONTRACT for customer. So we want to map project base quotation after inquiry come from customer. My worry is that can we manage both cost planning (easy cost planning & network cost planning) in one project and how. If client wants 1st to plan in WBS level & after that on activity level is it possible in system?

Dear Nivrutti

If you are creating project structure, cost plan & then you are using it for your quotation, It's always good to go for network costing. Since it gives detailed cost plan, it always has higher edge. You can tell advantages of n/w costing to your client.

Regarding your question, whether you can use both?

I'm not sure, but I think it'll conflict & increase your planned cost. Better to stick to one cost plan method.

Lets wait, what other have to say on this.

Thanks

no conflict - can use both planning methods

read Nitin's mail - he is spot on

first plan using ECP only on WBS by on say plan version 100 for rough cut - this can be used for generating quotation etc if required

once job is secured then use network costing version 0

there is no duplication as different versions are used
