Error in START_SHDI_FIRST phase

Hi,

I am in the process of upgrading SAP BW 3.5 to SAP BI 7.0. My upgrade

is failing in the phase START_SHDI_FIRST with the error "Call of

function module "UPG_IS_SHADOW_SYSTEM" by RFC failed (error-status "-

3")". I have updated the latest kernel in the shadow system and my user

ids SAP* and DDIC are not locked. When i login to the shadow system and

check st22 i see that DDIC does not have sufficient authorizations. But

i am not able to assign sap_all to ddic in the shadow system. It does

not allow me to save. Please help.

Your shadow system is down. Please start shadow system first.

Check SAP Note 525677 - Problems when starting shadow instance

This is resolved. I had to install the SAP GUI on the server.
