Poor memory utilisation - SAP NW ABAP 701 SR1 TRIAL

Former Member

Hi experts.

Hope you can help me. I'm a BW consultant and thought i would have a go at installing the NW SR1 trial. Specs are as follows:

VM XP SP2

1 Processor, 4 Cores @ 4Ghz

3GB allocated (out of possible 4GB)

As you can see, [ST02|http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/2423/performance2.jpg] & [ST06|http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/1817/performance3.jpg] & [SAP Memory stats|http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/2797/performance4.jpg] suggests that i only have 1/3 of my physical memory utilised and i'm using over 2GB page file. I'm aware of the PHYS_MEMSIZE but have no idea how to change it????

Can someone please help?

NB: Currently installing the trial on Server 2003 R2 to see if it's an OS limitation.

Hi,

You can change this in RZ10 transaction change and select instance profile there. Then change this parameter there.

You have to restart your system after changing the parameter.

Thanks

Thanks Sunny,

When i check RZ10, there is no profile there. Do i create the instance profile in RZ10? Do you know of a guide or some instructions?

From the Menu -> Utilities -> Import profiles -> Of active servers, you should be able to see a profile now which you can add/change parameters ?

Thanks Nelis. I changed the PHYS_MEMSIZE to 2000mb leaving 1GB for the OS although after saving, activating and restarting. ST06 still shows almost 2GB free. In RSA1 when i select datasource / infosounce etc it often takes 1+ mins to compile. I also noticed that the import/export buffer is only 40% which suggests that there is not enough memory???

Thought it might be useful to also post total memory settings:

Please can someone advise?

Make sure you page file is at least 4 times the size of the RAM... then see if that helps

often takes 1+ mins to compile

Did you run SGEN after the install?

Hi Juan, i havn't run SGEN yet (planning to do this over the weekend). My page file is set to 10GB. My problem though, is that once SAP is started using sapmmc, it will start paging heavily before using the available ram. As i have both the application server and DB on the same disk (not sure how to install over multiple disks within a VM), paging dramatically effects performance.

From memory (im not at home), it pages up to 4.5GB at the point of login. Ideally, i want SAP to use the available ram before it starts paging. I know that that this is a common issue, although i have refered to the relelvant SAP notes and applied the Microsoft patches.

If you have access to SAP notes also take a look at [Note 88416 - Zero administration memory management as of 4.0A/ Windows|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/88416]
