Increasing archivelog file size

Hi experts,

How we can increase the size of archivelogs?

Present we have 100MB, and we want to increase upto 200 MB.

This is for testing network bottlenecks during DR configuration.

Hello Nick,

> How we can increase the size of archivelogs?

The size of the archive logs depends on the size of the online redo log files. If the redo log files of a redo log group are full they get archived (or a manually logswitch occurs). Sapnote #309526 describes how to extend the online redo log files (and respective the archive log files).

If your redo log size is currently enough (no "checkpoint not completed" erros) .. you will not need more space in a Data Guard / standby environment. The network bottlnecks will depend on the amount of data, the output peaks and of course the core network performance.

Hello,

as always, I would recommed to use the procedure from note #1259767 to resize your online redo logs. This functionality was just recently integrated into the brtools.

For increasing the archive logfile sizes in your system ;

you have to go for increased size of the redo- logs in your system

This is because the ARC process creates one file for each redo log it copies ;

For increasing the redo log size online in your system ; you have to create new log groups and members with increased size , then force some log switches so that the old ( original ones ) becomes inactive ; then you can drop them

PLease see the following link for more details :
