Hello sdn,

I have current environment as XI 3.0 and we would like to migrate objects to PI 7.1. What is the roadmap for this and pros and cons for this kind of migration?

Thanks

Hi Ram,

I am in the same situation when my clinet decided to migrate to PI7.1,then after migrating we found many advatages.Development point of view its offerening some of good features(serach in sdn PI7.1 new features).its good flexibilty to develop Interfaces.

Coming to perfromace i can PI7.1 stable, compare to 3.0,we can handle highvolume messages, coming to achitecture point of view its SOA based achitecture, where we can resuse the existing services .we can publish the services.

Its not a difficlut job to migrate XI3.0 objects in to PI7.1,just you need to re-deploy JAVA Mappings,JAVA Proxies and Adapter modules once again.remianing all will work fine.

Raj

Thanks guys for the response.

If possible would like to know : Suppose I have a new box on which I install PI 7.1 and XI 3.0 is on a different box. Will this be regarded as an upgraded or a new installation?

With which tools do we do this migration ? Suppose a SW component exists on a diff box for XI 3.0 and I want to export and import into my PI 7.1 box.

Hi Ramverma,

regarding the difference between "upgrading" and "migrating" : assumed that a separate new PI 7.1 system is available you will move / migrate your IR/ID objects. But if XI 3.0 / PI 7.0 system is to be upgraded in-place to PI 7.1 objects are still available after the upgrade and no move is necessary.

Regarding the roadmap, decision making and migration steps: this following How2 guides are exactly what you need :

If your Question is Why to migrate - Obviously PI7.1 has lots of features & good at performance. So checckout PI 7.1 features

If your Question is how to migrate - check the below doc..

Decision-Making Factors when Moving to SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 - Upgrade or New Installation with Phase Out (http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/40328fc8-4844-2b10-b7a2-8930c16df2ba)

There are other good docs hwen u search for "upgrade from XI to PI"
