Diff. between CRLF and fixed length IDoc

Can someone explain the difference between CRLF and fixed length idoc? Please provide the link (if any) which gives a detailed description.

CRLF is nothing but Carriage Return Line Feed

so each record should be separated (end separator) by a new line

in case of fixed field each field will have a specific field length.

I know this basic difference between the 2 types.. I would like to know if there is anything more to it?

Because I've a CRLF file where SEGNUM is 0 for all the segments. I am of the assumption that SEGNUM should indicate the segment number in a file..
