Hi,

Did you check you firewalls settings to open comm ports for BO XI ?

You can also try to look into the Logging folder to see if a logfile has a more explicit error.

Samuel.

I am Running BO4 SP5 (Patch 5)

I got the Failed to Retrieve cluster name from Database form the SIA

the CMS also cannot start.

Event viewer show CMS have the error "

The root server reported an error Initialization Failure.

On the logging folder, CMS show the following errors

LOG Q0I=> NiPGetHostByName: '$SMDAgentHost' not found: getaddrinfo [ninti.c 895]

ERROR => Main agent failed to be initilized due to incorrect host setting! [ncsmtdatasen 20]

- I think this is because I install the Oracle 11G 32bit client on the server

to resolve it, I use SAP NOTE : 1711203

I hope this will help someone

Hi Vincent,

If the CMS service won't start and there are one or both of the following error messages in the Event Viewer, it's most likely that you have a firewall somewhere that is blocking your traffic.

  • BusinessObjects_CMS: The root server reported an error Initialization Failure.
  • BusinessObjects_CMS: Failed to connect to name server XXXXXXX. Reason: Transport error: unable to retrieve the CMS factory.

Solution:

Adjust the firewall settings

Or

Please refer the below SNotes From SAP Market Place

hi, I agree firewall can cause CMS issues,

in my case it is not firewall issue.

Once I apply the solution from SAP NOTE : 1711203

everything is working
