Request for input on the Indian languages supported by SAP

Hi,

Can anyone in the forum please tell me if SAP supports Hindi (Indian national language) as one of the supported languages. Any help on this is highly appreciated. I spent some time for searching on the same topic but could not gather any input. Apparently it looks like that SAP does not support Hindi.

Regards

Nilay

Hi Nilay,

You have two options.

1. Either you install any popular hindi font in SAP and store and exchange data using that font.

Its inexpensive and easy if you are working in a non unicode system but its not full proof.

But it has many limitation for example to view these characters you need to have the font. so it will get difficult for sending emails and might be in printing too..

2. Upgrade the system to a Unicode System :Which is a full proof solution.

Hindi language is supported by Unicode. In this case you will not have any big issues as it is itself a Global standard for character encoding.

Cheers

Hi Ajay,

please note that 1. is NOT supported by SAP.

Although this might work in some cases, it has multiple serious disadvantages.

The biggest one: you cannot convert such a system to Unicode !

Therefore it is mandatory to have a Unicode system if customers want to use Hindi characters !

Hi Nils,

I agree that trying to use characters by installing new fonts will be disadvantage. It would be a big overhead while converting the code pages to unicode code page while upgrading to Unicode system.

Unicode is the only solution moreover installing font is only a possibility.

Thanks for your feedback

Cheers
