SAPGATE WAY installed as a new sapsid (such as GW1)?

Dear experts,

For our SAP system DE1 (SAP ECC 6.0 dual stack, Release 7.00) we have the central instance running on a windows server (64-bit Win 2003) and the database distributed on a linux host, the database is Oracle 10g running in a Oracle RAC on linux nodes.

In order to get DB13 running we need to configure BR*tool, the suggestion in the SAP notes was to install a SAP Gateway. After reading the installation guide of the SAP Gateway we are still not 100% sure how to do this, would be very grateful if you could shed some light on the following simple questions:

- Can you please confirm if we need to install the gateway under a new sapsid (such as GW1) rather than the existing DE1 sapsid?

- We usually have our <sapmnt> directory mounted under a file system /u0x (so /u01 or /u02 etc). The GW1 directory would be under /u04/GW1. Is this supported/allowed?

- Is the Gateway supported to run in a RAC configuation - any additional config required for RAC? This is essential as the gateway will be installed on a RAC cluster.

Many thanks for your advise

Hi Manfred,

For DB13 get running , sap application make communication with its Database using SAP RFC -- SAPXPG_DBDEST_<DB HOST> ( you will get this rfc under TCP/IP Connection.

And when there is distibuted system i.e CI on box 1 and DB on BOx 2 , in this case RFC SAPXPG_DBDEST_<DB HOST> plays very crucial role for DB 12 , DB 13 ..... and RFC make communication with SAP gateway service , which is generaly not present on database instance.

the suggestion in the SAP notes was to install a SAP Gateway

SAP suggestion is right , you have install gateway instance on database node.

Can you please confirm if we need to install the gateway under a new sapsid (such as GW1) rather than the existing DE1sapsid?

You can install gateway with the SAME sid, it is all you decision need to use existance sid or or new sid , instance can differ on instance no.

After you install the gateway instance , you can specifiy the gateway service in RFC SAPXPG_DBDEST_<DB HOST>

Is the Gateway supported to run in a RAC configuation - any additional config required for RAC? This is essential as the gateway will be installed on a RAC cluster.

Regarding your above question , i will get back to you, that can we install gateway instance on RAC .

Thanks

Anil
