it hangs at start instance (phase 24 of 28)

could the problem be /etc/services?

Odd thing is this - I'm able to start the instance via su - de6adm and sapstart. Then I can log on via a sapgui from another machine (after opening 3205 in the firewall) using sap* and the default password (the one that looks like a date).

Is there some way to force through the remaining 4 steps?

P.S. It looks OK in preview but after I post it collapses into aone lup... what's up there?

I'd make sure nothing is blocking or using the port 3905(192.168.57.2:3905) on that ip address. I'd also comment out any conflicting services in /etc/services for good measure. Use 'netstat -plnt' to determine if anything else is using the port.

I'd already opened the port in the firewall, though it shouldn't matter since the connection is from the same machine. Also commented out the etc/services entries and it didn't help either.

Couldn't find the correct configuration file to edit so reran it and overrode parameter "Internal ABAP Messaging Service Port" proppsed value 3905 with 3215 (number pulled out the air) and it worked (had to restart after one of the import jobs failed).

check the host file

cat /etc/host

ur local IP must be with hostname.
