Hi there,
I am getting the above error when I try to run the SAPDBA command in the command prompt.
It gives me the message:
Connected to idle instance
I think my instance is not connecting to the Database.
Can anyone please help?
Regards,
Swaroop
Hi all.
The problem is solved. After inspecting the Alert.log file, I found that the oracle folder on the E drive was full and there was not enough space.
So after compressing the space, the problem was solved.
I thank you all very much for your help.
Regards,
Swaroop.

HI,
It mean your oracle is shutting down. Someone must have fired command for shutdown.
Please verify /oracle/SID/saptrace/background/alert_SID.log file, it will be mentioned there.

As you have mentioned command prompt I am assuming you are in windows...
have a look at your ID password for your oracle service user... What user are you using..

Is yur shutdown hangs?
did anybody issue a command "shutdown"?
First try "startup" after getting the message "connected to an idle instance"
IF you are getting the same error then probably somehow ur database is shutting down itself which is in hanged staus. Is it possible to restart your database server?
