IDOC - system requirements

Former Member

Hi,

I am not sure if this is the right forum for my question, sorry if it isn´t.

I want to get some really basic informations about SAP and IDOC. Can anybody provide me with a source or the info what system requirements a SAP-System has to use the IDOC-technology? Do I need a special configuration / module for this?

Also a source for further information what kind of use-cases for IDOCs exists (a few examples where and for what I could use IDOCs would be great for better understanding).

Sorry for these really basic questions, I am not really familiar with the architecture of SAP in this case.

Thanks a lot for your help,

Christoph

Hi,

while reading all the information about IDOC, I realized the SOAP-Adapter. Can anybody provide me with some information about the differences between sending an IDOC using ALE and the use of the SOAP-Adapter?

Many thanks,

Christoph

Hi Christoph,

Have you checked the help.sap page. It has information on all adapter types and the cases where they should be used

IDOC Adapter http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ab/bdb13b00ae793be10000000a11402f/content.htm

SOAP Adapter http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/69/a6fb3fea9df028e10000000a1550b0/content.htm

Hi ,

SOAP adapter concept never comes in IDoc ,

ALE technology is used to conect to SAP Systems to trasfer the data, its provides communication between SAP Systems to intechange IDocs/RFC information,But now SAP Come up with new middle ware called SAP Process Integration.

SAP PI replaicng ALE Technology, still we can use ALE'S TO CONECT TO SAP Systems.

Hi,

so do I understand it right -

I cannot use ALE if I want to connect a non-SAP-System to a SAP-System? Therefor I can use the SOAP-XML Interface to send XML-Messages to SAP?

Sorry for my bad knowledge in this field,

many thanks for your help,

Christoph

yes you are correct, if you want to connect to non sap systems SAP Procees Integration Providing different Adapter like

JDBC-- to connect Data Base Systems

JMS-to conenct messaging queue systems

File- to connect to File Systems

SOAP - to conect to web aplication to cal Web Services

like that we have diferent adapters ,these adapter are prebuilt,so its very easy to use and configure.

Hi Christoph,

ALE is not restricted to communication between SAP systems; it can also be used for connecting SAP Systems to non-SAP systems.

either you need to go fro SAP certifie4d translator programs (supplied by external vendors) to convert IDoc to non-SAP format or by using RFC interface for non-SAP systems

Check this page http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0b/2a6524507d11d18ee90000e8366fc2/content.htm

But if you SAP PI in your landscape then you can connect SAP R3 with PI (using IDoc or RFC) and then PI will talk with non-SAP systems using File,JDBC, SOAP or http adapters

Hi Cristoph,

Welcome to SAP

Basically an IDoc stands for Intermediate Documents, these are the documents with the help of which data is exchanged between SAP R/3 and non-R/3 systems.

To know more about IDoc check this link http://www.thespot4sap.com/Articles/SAP_ALE_IDOCS.asp

Also if you are new to SAP IDOC or ALE check the help.sap

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/0b/2a6095507d11d18ee90000e8366fc2/frameset.htm

And the ERP forum will be the most correct forum for your query

and if you have some IDoc development queries raise it in ABAP Forum
