increased oracle activity

Hi Friends,

I have installed IDES abap stack on oracle and I noticed a strange behevior of oracle when starting transaction RSA1.

When I start Administrator workbench or anything else reagrding BI the oracle process in the task manager is increasing up to 69%.

Normaly it is 5% or less.

And the status of the dispatcher process in the Sap console is getting yellow, means it is restarting.

Can some body explain this behavior?

Thanks Jimbob.

Hello,

my guess is that you have a SQL statements with a very high ressource consumption here that finally slows down the system so much that the dispatcher is no longer able to do his work (iterating on his queues) on time so that the MMC turns yellow.

It would be helpful if you could capture the Oracle ressource consumption by creating for example an ASH report for the time the problem occured (see note #853576 regarding this).

But at any case, make sure that the Oracle parameters are properly adjusted for BI before (use the check script from note #1171650 for this).

Best Regards,

Michael

Yes - because the database is working on your request.

Does it?

Check dev_disp and dev_w0

What Oracle version (and patchlevel) are you running? What IDES are you running?

Hi Markus,

the Oracle version is 10.2.0 patch level 4.

OS is windows 2003 standard rs2 sp2 and ides is erp ehp4.

I noticed now the increased CPU usage is when I login to the system.

And the dispatcher process shows "running but bad dialog time"

Ok. So you run 10.2.0.4. did you also apply the latest minipatch?

> And the dispatcher process shows "running but bad dialog time"

What are your hardware specs? You have enough memory? Is this a 32bit system?

Thanks Markus,

Hardware is 2 intel xeon 2.1, 24gb ram, 64 bit windows.

I'm not very sure about the mini patch, I found 1 like this OPatch_10204_Generic_v5.zip and two like 10204_Patch20_MSWIN-x86-64.zip and 10204_Patch22_MSWIN-x86-64.zip. Is it one of them I have to install?

you need to install OPatch_10204_Generic_v5.zip first,

then, install 10204_Patch22_MSWIN-x86-64.zip

docs should be included in the zip files.

This might not help, But I see that you are using a kernel in version 7,01 but still are using a DB library of 7.00:

C:\usr\sap\S04\DVEBMGS05\exe\dboraslib.dll' is "700.08", patchlevel (0.25)

go get sapEXEDB*.SAR in the 7.01 version sectoin in SAPNET. See if that helps.
