solution manager diagnostic agent - type of java installation on manag sys

Hi,

can anybody tell, what the installation of a solution manager diagnostic agent on a web as java (e.g. portal) looks like?

Is it a usage type with some sca's to be installed with JSPM or SDM?

Is something like IGS, another process, which can seen on the Java Mgmt Console?

Is it something different?

Our landscape:

Solman 7.0/EHP1

Portal 7.0/SP18

thanx for clarification.

Hi Jagan,

As it's to be treated as a seperate SAP system, it is a separate instance with it's own system name, and has no software dependancies to the other system (in our case the portal). Right?

Thanx,

Yes, its a seperate instance and the system name is normally SMD (SID) and it shouldn't have any dependency for installation.(on the software components). It establishes/Configures certain applications in the satellite system(managed system) only when you configure it to report to solution manager for Diagnostics(SMD). but yes, for this you have to install some components/agents in satellite system according to the diagnostics pre-requisite notes.(for your solman release).

For some additional details on the SMD agent usage, do have a look at this SAP note: 1365123 - Installation of Root Cause Analysis Agents.

Thanks,

Hi,

SMD Agent should be treated as a seperate SAP system. It runs in the Same host as the SAP system (in your case portal).

you have to install the SMD agent through the Installation master and having the compatible SMD Agent.

Its visible in the SAP MMC and you can't manage it with portal's admin tools.

to know more about Diagnostics agent and Functions, visit : http://service.sap.com/diagnostics - media library.

Thanks,
