Different printers based on users

Hi All,

I got a requirement for the new warehouse in which we have different picking and putaway location. As the warehouse is big we have multiple stations with corresponding computers & printers setup. Currently what we have suggested is to have all the warehouse printer setup to LOCL (local printer) but this doesn't print the barcodes on transfer orders. So, is there another setup other than storage types by which we can control the printers. Or can we setup printers by users?

Thanks.

Naren.

Hi All,

The problem still exists and I am providing more details on it. Our distribution center deals with a lot of product lines, but all are stored under same storage types like racks, floor space, bulk and so on (maybe we could have done a better job of segmenting storage types based on product lines). But each product line can have a different packing station(s). Currently we have just few product lines and there are multiple packing stations. In SAP we have all the packing slips and transfer orders pointing to one printer which is in one of the packing stations. So, currently packer from different packing station has to go all the way to the other station just to pick these packing slips/transfer orders.

- Is there a way we can split the bulk of packing slips/transfer orders to different printers based on which USER processes the deliveries?

- We were planning to use a z-table which will have USER & PRINTER NAME that will be used by packing program to print these packing slips/transfer orders, any ideas on that?

- Issue with having a z-table is if a USER is not available one day and a different USER from another station is filling the first user, in that case we need to update the z-table with different printer name. But that will require involvement of support team. Instead, if we can add a NEW PARAMETER ID under own data then user can change his own printer. Is there a way to add a new z parameter id for printers in own data?

Thanks.

If it is OK to have the default printer defined/maintained in the user master (like tcode Su01 or System > User profile > Own data, Then the standard logic may suit your needs. I think you will need to undo some config for the whs. Te standard logic works as detailed below. the system needs to get to #4 below, then the SAP userid printer will be selected.

the system proceeds with automatic printer determination as described below Config Tcode is OMLV.

1) First the system checks whether a printer is set in the configuration "Printer-Movement". If so, the printer determination is complete at this point.

2) If not, the system uses the parameter "PriSrcTyp" defined in the configuration "Printer-Movement" to decide how it will proceed. If the parameter is set here, the system checks if a printer is defined in the setting "Printer Picking Area" and then proposes this printer.

3) If the system finds no printer, it searches in the setting "Printer - Storage Type" and uses this, if a printer is set.

4) If the system cannot find a printer using the methods described above it selects the printer defined in the user master of the user currently logged on.

5) If no printer is defined here, the system automatically proposes LP01

This writes the data to the spool file.

Just a correction, we have issues with label printers. In this case, I can possibly use LOCL printers for PACKING SLIPS and TRANSFER ORDERS. Printing TO has still the issue of bar codes not printing. But I saw solution to resolve the missing barcodes using LOCL on this forum.

About Label printers, similar issue where we have multiple stations so we would like to get these labels as packing is done at specific station. Any ideas on how we can have labels printed on local label printers.

Thanks.

We are possibly going to used HUPAST tcode for packing and it allows having different profiles for different label printers assigned to them. This will resolve the issue.

Thanks for other responses earlier.
