Problem Searching Invoice with lower case"External Invoice Number"

Hello Experts

We are facing a problem while doing a search for invoice in extended search. If the external invoice number is uppper case then its working fine, but if it is lower case it is not returning anything. e.g. if the external invoce number is ABCD in backend, search will work in frontened, if it is Abcd in backend, it will not return anything. The reason is frontened is converting invoice number to upper case automatically. Is there any oss note avialable to avoid converting automatic upper case or any BADI available to capture the lower case or do I have to make some user setting for this. Please let me know .
