When you create "sales deal" in SAP, then you can create discounts from this environment.
The discount is then linked to the sales deal and it helps you to follow the reason for the discount: A "promotion".
If you use CO-PA you can get reporting on the "sales deal" budget and results (discounts allowed).
As a limitation of the system if you have 2 promotional discounts in the same item line, then only one is saved in the sales document item line in the VBAP-KNUMA-AG field.: That's a big limitation.
I have never seen a productive use of "promotions" on customer sites, but I think that's an aggregating concept over "sales deal", with it's own follow-up.
