Dear SAPpers,

there are different delivery types in SAP System. For this reason i would like to know which type of functions in SAP does a delivery type control?

Hi

Delivery type controls many important functions. Few of them, I have mentiond below.

A Delivery type controls,

- Whether an order reference is required to create the said Delivery or not.

- In standard Storage location is determined in Delivery , but it is determined based on a rule (MALA, RETA & MARE in standard).

Which rule will be used to determine Picking/Storage location is controlled in the Delivery type.

- Whether Route will get redetermine during Delivery for the said Delivery Type or not (Route can be re-determined during delivery based on weight).

- Whether rescheduling should take place during delivery or not.

Delivery split by warehouse numbers. That means whether delivery should be splitted if the items are meant for different warehouse or not.

- Beside these above control functions, you can also control what is the Output determination Procedure, Text determination Procedure and Partner determination Procedure will work for the said Delivery Type.

Every Delivery Type has their own Control:-

1. Text Determinaton : - if you have Way bil no. as a Text which you dont want to see the in another Delivery Type,then maintain it through this Delivery Type Only.

2. Rout Determination :_ This is used to determine the Route for any delivery type .

3. Same applied for Partner Determination & Output Determination.

4. Storage Location rule to determine the Storage Location.

5. Give the different Number Range for different Delivery Type.

The behaviour of Delivery Types is based on its "Document Category" and this will be controlled in VOV8 and Copy Controls like VTLA, VTFL

Firstly, In sales document type at T code VOV8, We used to assign delivery type. and by default for that sales document type that delivery type gets determined.

And also after VOV8 we must create copy control using t code VTLA for those sales document type and delivery document type.

In SD when we talk about Delivery Types, then usually we mean Outbound delivery.

In its role as central object of the goods issue process, the outbound delivery supports all shipping activities including picking, packing, transportation and goods issue.

During the outbound delivery process, shipping-planning information is recorded, status of shipping activities is monitored and data accumulated during shipping processing is documented.

When the outbound delivery is created, the shipping activities, such as picking or delivery scheduling, are initiated, and data that is generated during shipping processing is included in the delivery.

Some standard Delivery Types are:

LF: Standard Delivery

LR: Returns Delivery

LO: Delivery without referencing an order

NL: Replenishment Delivery

NLCC: Intercompany Replenishment Delivery

So depending on the busines scenario the right Delivery Types has to be assigned in IMG.

In sales document type, We assign delivery type. so by default for that sales document type that particular delivery type gets determined.
