Where is SDM (Software Deployment Manager)?

SDM tool comes with the Java stack. We used to deploy the Support Pack or Patches by using the SDM in Netweaver 2004, It uses the port 18. From Netweaver 2004s, we are using JSPM(Java Support Pack Stack), it uses the port 19. SAP recommends to uses JSPM for applying Support Packs insted to SDM. While applying the Patches JSPM does the prerequisites, where as SDM does not do the prerequisites. While appling the Patches using JSPM, It connects internaly to the SDM.

You cannot install SDM separately, it gets installed while you are installing the Java Stack or engine. We can upgrade the patches of the SDM. We can find it at service.sap.com/swdc

We can find the SDM tool in the SAP Directory, the location is

JAVA STACK

usr/sap/SID/j2ee/SDM/programes/

click on RemoteGUI.sh (Unix) and RemoteGUI.bat (Windows)

ABAP+JAVA STACK

usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS00/SDM/programes/

click on RemoteGUI.sh (Unix) and RemoteGUI.bat (Windows)

Note: In ABAP STACK, There would be no SDM.

Hi,

The Software Deployment Manager is part of the NetWeaver JAVA stack and is used to deploy software components on the JAVA server.

It is installed automatically when you install a NetWeaver JAVA system.
