Add user-defined field - how to add a unlimited text

Hi,

Following the note OSS 1169555, I am able to add some user-defined fields. It works perfectly.

Now, i want to add a user-defined field which is a unlimited text. In the note 1169555, there is no information

about it.

Does someone have an idea ?

Please ignore my first reply.

Custom fields can be either specified using the infotype '9xxx', where there is a limit of 255 characters for one field or can use "Zxxx/Yxxx" subtype under the infotype 1002 to support unlimited long text. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any more details.

Hi Venky,

I'm trying to the infotype 1002 to support unlimited long text, and without steps, it's not a success.

What I did:

. Create a structure HRI9104 with 3 customer fields (there no field for the unlimited text)

. With transaction PPCI, create a infotype 9104(structure HRI9104)

. Add an entry in V_778U with Infotype 1002 and subtype 9104

. Add an entry in T777I with object type P5 and infotype 9104

. Add entries in T777Z

- with object type P5 and infotype 9104

- with object type P5 and infotype 1002 and subtype 9104

. With transaction PPCI, create the subscreen for infotype 9104

With transaction grpc_str_change, I see the TAB for infotype 9104 but the text is absent.

Could you explain me the steps ?

Hi Sylvain,

You cannot create a userdefined field to have unlimited text. 999 is the maximum length allowed.

I have experimented some tests and the maximum lenght that I could put is 255 for a type Char...

Do you remember at which type that you could worked with 999 ?

I have tried with a type String and a lenght 999. And with the tansaction PPCI, when I tried to re-create the subscreen,

it fails with a message that the length of the field is 0.

Also, with the structure HRI9102 (new infotype), when I re-activate this structure with the length at 999, it tolds that the

maximum lenght for a field in a transprarent table is 255.

I work with version SAP_BASIS 701 and GRCFND_A 300...
