Rapid growth in Database size

Hello,

Our BW system (Netweaver 7 on AIX+Ora) is growing in leaps and bounds. Average increase in size is about 25GB per month.

We have crossed 300GB mark and it is getting somewhat complicated to manage such a large DB.

We are performing Offline DB reorg, but still the growth is staggering.

Could you please suggest how this rapid database growth is handled in large BW systems?

I am sure there must eb BW systems much larger than this.

So, how to plan the maintenance activities for optimizing performance of these large DBs?

Thanks.

Now 300GB is not really a huge DB... as said by Manoj the best strategy is to be prepared to acommodate the growth on the long term, you can estimate growth using the space statistics on DB02, also you can check if a particular table or index is growing out of control and get your abaper to find out the root cause and take action if required.

Database is there to grow. This has to be anticipited, sized properly. You have to do the same tasks irrespective of the size. If you can be more specific about the complication then somebody will definitely help you.

But make sure you have enough space left all the time on the system based on the growth rate. Sometimes it takes more time to procure hardware (hard disks).

You have to consider few factors like how you are going to backup. If it is offline backup, can business accepts the downtime. If current hardware is inadequete then start planning now (tape drive speed etc).
