Hi Bharat,
<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/ee/275c42b4e05542e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">SAP Netweaver</a> is a comprehensive integration and application platform, that works with your existing IT infrastructure to enable and manage change. SAP NetWeaver unifies integration technologies into a single platform and is preintegrated with business applications, reducing the need for custom integration. The platform is based on industry standards and can be extended with commonly used development tools such as Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE); Microsoft .NET; and IBM WebSphere.
SAP R/3 is SAP's integrated software solution for client/server and distributed open systems. SAP's R/3 is the world's most-used standard business software for client/server computing. R/3 meets the needs of a customer from the small grocer with 3 users to the multi-billion dollar companies The software is highly customizable using SAP's proprietary programming language, ABAP/4. R/3 is scalable and highly suited for many types and sizes of organizations.
The R/3 architecture is comprised of application and database servers. The application servers house the software and the database servers handle document updates and master file databases. The system can support an unlimited number of servers and a variety of hardware configurations.
SAP R/3 runs on several databases Oracle, Adabas D, Informix, DB2 for UNIX, DB2/400, Microsoft's SQL Server 6.0.
To get an idea about EP development u can refer this <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/2746">weblog</a>.

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies!
well, one thing I understand is that basically either it is R/3 or Netweaver we have DATABASE LAYER,APPLICATION LAYER in common.
The new thing added to Netweaver is the INTEGRATION LAYER-which is subdivided into PEOPLE INTEGRATION,INFORMATION INTEGRATION AND PROCESS INTEGRATION.
SAP calls it ESA, the complete software.
This is what I understand as of now.
If you people can correct me, and / or add some more details to it,that would make things more clear for me.
regards,
Bharat
Hi,
The R/3 architecture is comprised of application and database servers. The application servers house the software and the database servers handle document updates and master file databases.
SAP NetWeaver provides an open integration and application platform and permits the integration of the Enterprise Services Architecture. You can unify business processes across technological boundaries, integrate applications for your employees as needed, and access and edit simple information easily and in a structured manner.

hi Patrico,
Thanks for your reply.
As of what I see in the links are web dynpro development, CAF dev and KMC dev.(ALL BASED ON JAVA,J2EE)
I didnot know anything reg. KM&C.so will that document teach me all that is needed to configure and dev. applications in KM&C.
Secondly, regarding Enterprise portals, what are the trivial tasks besides administration and development.
What are the integration aspects of this with other components in Netweaver!
Can anyone also explain me the analogy between R/3 and Netweaver.
I am really confused.
LIKE
R/3 :- PRESENTATION LAYER(GUI); APPLICATION LAYER(APP SERVER); DATABASE LAYER
NETWEAVER:- PRESENTATION LAYER(EP);APPLICATION LAYER(WEB APP SERVER);DATABASE LAYER
WHERE DOES OTHER COMPONENTS OF NETWEAVER FIT.
Please bear with my question and be kind to explain me.
best regards,
Bharat
