You FQDN and your hostname both must point to your lan ip not your loopback address.

When this is assured, try RETRY as long as needed.

Hi all,

For recored onlly, i have the same problem. i know that the HOSTNAME should be mapped to the servers's ip address not the loopback, but i deploy the OS (RHEL 5) from a template in a VMware ESX server. After the deployment, the VMware reconfigured the /etc/hosts file to have the new name and did it in two places; loopback as well as the network addresses...

by deleting the hostname and FQDN from the loopback, the system passed the "start instance" phase.

Good luck for your installation..

Hi Kumar,

Mostly problem will occur due to Heap memory. Please check the following log file and post the same : dev_server0 and dev_dispatcher. please let us know the your system requirements also.

Hi,

This is a common problem when installing SAP products on linux machines;

There are 2 things that resolves the problem practically:

1- Bu sure that your hostname and fully qualified hostname resolves to your ip, not to your loopback adress.

For instance if your hostname is "myhost" and your domain name is "company.com" then both:

ping myhost

and

ping myhost.company.com

resolves to your ip (for instance 192.168.1.1) not your loopback (127.0.0.X)

2- Press RETRY until the instance starts.

best wishes,

Dear,

[ABAP: ACTIVE, Java: (dispatcher: UNKNOWN, server0: UNKNOWN)] did not reach state STARTING_APPS after 20:30 minutes. Giving up

It looks like, you are installing JAVA instance also. Therefore, it seems JAVA instance is not coming up. Please check your Virtual Memory and if not sufficient, increase it(generally, 4*RAM).

Hope this will help you.

Regards,

Faisal
