RFC Connection unicode to non-unicode

Hello,

We have a non-unicode BI system connecting to a unicode FI system and we have recently relocated the systems to a new network. When trying to activate the source system for the FI system with transaction RSA1 the following error is displayed:

Message text: Destination FI1CLNT300 has incorrect Unicode setting; adjust it to destination

Error Id: RSAR

Error Nr: 673

The long text displayed is as follows:

Diagnosis

The unicode settings for destination FI1CLNT300 do not match the source system.

System Response

Conversion errors might occur during data transfer.

Procedure

Adjust the destination accordingly.

The u2018MDMP & Unicodeu2019 tab settings for the RFC connection to the FI server is as follows: (set by default when creating the connection and unable to be changed)

Connection type with Target System: Non-unicode

MDMP settings: Inactive

Character conversion: Default setting (Ignore Error, Error Indicator: '#' = U+0023)

The connection setting for BI on the FI system is exactly the same.

The patch detail for the systems are as follows:

BI:

Kernel 700_REL patch level 133

SAP_ABA: SAPKA70016

SAP_BASIS: SAPKB70016

PI_BASIS: SAPKIPYM06

SAP_BW: SAPKW70018

FI:

Kernel 700_REL patch level 114

SAP_ABA: SAPKA70011

SAP_BASIS: SAPKB70011

PI_BASIS: SAPKIPYJ7A

SAP_BW: SAPKW70011

I realise that one way of resolving this issue would be to convert the BI system to unicode. That might not be possible at the moment so if anyone knows of any other solution to this problem any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

I would recommend to check following notes:

Note 547444 - RFC Enhancement for Unicode ./. non-Unicode Connections

Note 814707 - Troubleshooting for RFC connections Unicode/non-Unicode

Note 881781 - Unicode/non-Unicode RFC language and code page assignment

Hope that helps.
