online & offline backup step/procedure.

hi,

I am currently working on sap 4.7 version can anyone help me in giving correct

online /offline backup procedure/ steps through db13 & command mode bcoz i am

confused which one to use in what situation .pls help.

Not sure your database. Assuming oracle you may want to have a look at

Usually you can schedule the backup with DB13.

Hello Vivek

Follow the steps for online/offline backup

Backup from SAP system

1) login to SAP system

2) run T-code DB13

3) double click on clander date on which you want to take backup

4) select type of backup as you required.

5) Either set time for backup or start in immediately

6) click yes to execute

Backup through BrTools

1) login as <SID>ADM

2) goto command prompt (cmd)

3) type Brtools and enter

4) Select/type "4" Backup and database copy and enter.

5) Select "1" Database backup and enter

6) Select "6" Database backup and type backup type.

7) press "c" two time

If you choose to go with offline backup., then shutdown SAP and DB instance before running brtools.

Online backup when your system is up and running ( SAP + DB )

offline backup your SAP down DB up. You dont use offline backups unless after a system copy or some major tasks as people cant afford system being down for hours.

Online system keeps running + backup running.

Dear Ankush,

I want to take offline backup with network device through brtools only

and it is automatically taking tape....if want to chage it

how can i...?

what is the role of init<SID>.sap

what i have to change

please provide help

6) Select "2" Backup device type (device) like disk or tape

7) Select "6" Database backup and type backup type.

😎 press "c" two time

init<SID>.sap has all the parameters for Brtools and database

Dear when i am choosing

Select "2" Backup device type (device)

when i am using it and entering [Disk]

it is asking for Enter String Value for "device"

please clear what should i mention if i want to take bak up into D drive of my Hard disk.

hi,

change the below parameteres in init<SID>.SAP

1) backup_dev_type = disk

2) backup_root_dir = D:\Backup\<SID> (or else any location)

save the file and restart Brtools.

I strongly recommend you to read the BRTOOLS guide in help.sap.com

Those questions are fairly basic.
