NULL Interpretation

Dear Experts,

The current setting of the NULL Interpretation option determines

whether NULL source values are ignored or used to overwrite existing

destination data values.

If my table has the following values:

Cid Name Dept

1 john Accounts

2 ben stores

My excel data which i am trying to import

Cid Name Dept

3 Accounts

4 ron stores

And Now if I use u2018ignoreu2019 on Name field

I still can see 4 records,

Even if I use u2018overwriteu2019 option it shows 4 records??

Can any one show how it works practically ??

Kind Regards

Eva

Hi Eva,

The current setting of the NULL Interpretation option determines

whether NULL source values are ignored or used to overwrite existing

destination data values.

This is with respect to the null values in the source.Say you have a record with a some value in field and you are importing a new source file with the same record having a null value for that field and you set it to ignore, this null value from the source will be ignored and the exisitng field value will be preserved.

Similarly, if you say overwrite, the old value will be overwritten with null.

In your case, select the matching field as name and not id to track the duplicates.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Minaz
