Length of the Short ID of the WBS element by 16 char

Hi everybody,

I have the following problem:

1st level: the project definition is composed of 8 char

2nd level: 1st WBS element level, same as above 8 char

3rd level: 2nd BS element level, composed of 11 char

4th level: 3rd WBS element level, composed of 14 char

5th level: 4th WBS element level, composed of 17 char

The field short ID shows only the 16th first characters and not the complete number of the WBS element on that level.

Could you give me an advice how to increase the length of this field without changing the SAP standard field (PRPS-POSKI) set-up or do anyone have already solve this issue.

its standard, there is no option to alter this

the data element poski has only 16 so that is the limitation

but you use the MASK ID function on the project definiton tab for this

Selection mask for WBS element short IDs

Mask for creating a short ID for WBS elements.

Use

The short ID enables you to find WBS elements by a short string, or to display WBS elements in lists. Once you have defined a short ID for the WBS element, the system will propose it and you can change it, if necessary.

Select the characters that you want to be included in the short ID from the WBS identifier with a + in the field Mask short ID in the project definition.

Notes

If you have not defined a short ID for the WBS element, the system automatically uses the first 16 characters in the WBS element identifier as the short ID.

Examples

Mask short ID................ + + ++

WBS element identifier.......1234567890

Short ID of the WBS element..2690

In the project definition you mark the second, sixth, ninth and tenth positions in the field Mask Short ID with a +.

You create a WBS element with the identifier 1234567890.

The system uses the characters 2690 as the short ID for this WBS element
