problem in connection to portal

Hi,

I have installed vc on windows 2000.Portal is on different machine.both computers are not any domain but they r in LAN. so while installation i gave the computer for DNS prefix. problem is when i am accessing portal from vc...portal page is not opening

Hi Amit,

It is not possible, as both the systems are supposed to be in the same domain.

Try to access portal home page using the following urls , if it opens then you can access portal from VC :

http://<ip address>:<50000/irj/portal

If you have the hostname entry of the portal server in your host file then also try this url :

http://<host-name>:<50000/irj/portal

It is very possible. Provided that you have a dns suffix on both machines. You should never, never access the portal via it's IP or it's unqualifed domain name. You can try this to perform troubleshooting / connectivity issues but you really should try and use the fully qualified domain names at all times.
