NetWeaver CE 7.1 documentation for SAP Web Dispatcher?

Former Member

The SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1, SAP Web Dispatcher document says:

"

The SAP Web dispatcher is initially installed using the SAPinst installation program. This initial installation is described in the installation guide. You can find this in SAP Service Marketplace under:

http://service.sap.com/instguidesNW

Here, choose Installation ® Installation Standalone Engines.

Here you can download the Web Dispatcher installation guide for your platform.

"

I navigate to http://service.sap.com/instguidesNW and take the [SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment (CE) 7.1| ] link to:

There I find nothing for the "Web Dispatcher installation" guide or even the string "disp". If I look in the "Installation Guide SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 SR5 on Windows: SAP MaxDB Production Edition" manual on that page I don't find any information. Where/what is the document for this?

If I start sapinst.exe on the platform I can see how/where to begin the installation; but, it took me a while to figure out that the SAP System ID had to be 3 characters unlike the others and using F1 as the error dialog suggested didn't do anything. So, having explicit documentation would be helpful.

Thanks,

William

Hi William,

You are right that the link to the Web Dispatcher's guide is missing in the list of CE guides. Fortunately, the guide is available on Service Marketplace:

1. Go to https://websmp104.sap-ag.de/installNWPI71

2. Go to section 3, Installation - Standalone Engines. The Web Dispatcher 7.1 on Windows guide is at the bottom of the section.

Hope this helps,

Rossen

Hi Rossen, Thank you for the feedback, it's very helpful.

Following the links on configuration I get to text that I've seen elsewhere, it says:

It requires minimal configuration - you just have to enter the following data in the profile file:

Port, on which the HTTP(s) requests are to be received (parameter icm/server_port_<xx>)

Host and HTTP port of the SAP Message Server (parameter rdisp/mshost and parameter ms/http_port)

 Example

If you should be able to call the Web application externally, for example using the URL www.shop.acme.com, this host name must be mapped internally to the SAP Web dispatcher. This then forwards the HTTP(S) request to a suitable application servers.

End of the example.

Since I'm not experienced with NetWeaver configuration I need to know which profile file(s), specifically it's referring to and the syntax of the above. Right now in the SCS profile I see:

#-----------------------------------------------------------------------
# SAP Message Server for Java
#-----------------------------------------------------------------------
rdisp/msserv = 0
rdisp/msserv_internal = 3906
ms/standalone = 1
ms/server_port_0 = PROT=HTTP,PORT=81$$

and in one of the Instance profiles we modified to support HTTPS I see:

# https port configuration
icm/server_port_4 = PROT=HTTPS, PORT=5$(SAPSYSTEM)01, VCLIENT=1

So, what goes where? What will parameter icm/server_port_<xx> actually look like given my instance number?

Thanks,

William

Hi William,

I'm just a poor guy working on documentation for Web services

You can try asking the NetWeaver installation gurus in the [ Software Logistics|; forum. And I suppose the CE gurus are in the [Composition Environment|; forum.

The chance to get there a good answer for CE installation and configuration is much higher than here.

Hope this helps,

Rossen

Here's another documentation related issue in this area:

This [page|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/b4/9aa8862e714e6db8e74e48e5d3283b/frameset.htm] says "SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1", "Operating the SAP Web Dispatcher" and on it, in the prerequisites section:

"

The following services must be activated in the HTTP service tree (Transaction SICF):

/sap/public/icman

/sap/public/icf_info/*

For more information, see:

. [Creating an ICF Service and Activating|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/78/9852aec06b11d4ad310000e83539c3/content.htm] and [Deactivating an ICF Service|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/f3/f8193c99f5a765e10000000a11402f/content.htm]

"

I don't know much about SAP products, but when it says "Transaction SICF" what's the context for that in NetWeaver CE 7.1? Isn't that ABAP or old SAP? The two "for more information" links are broken, so did someone just copy some old or irrelevant documentation here, what's the relevant step/info for NetWeaver CE 7.1?

Thanks,

William

Hi William,

In this case, it seems that the prerequisite for the mentioned ABAP transaction only applies to systems containing the AS ABAP. Since CE is Java only, this prerequisite can probably be ignored.

Regarding the broken links, here is a more recent version of the Operating the SAP Web Dispatcher document:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce711/helpdata/en/48/99d231ee2b73e7e10000000a42189b/frameset.htm

The links there are OK, and, as described above, relevant only when the ABAP stack is installed.

Best regards,

Rossen
