SAPDBHOST Environment Variable Set Incorrectly

Former Member

Hi,

I'm trying to rename a system , with same SID , to work on another partition with a different host name. When I sign on as SidOFR and WRKENVVAR I see the environment variable ,SAPDBHOST, is still set to the old name even though I changed the R3sid400 data areas.

Is there another place this variable could be picked up from - does R3inlpgm play a role in this ?

Thanks

Hi David,

for sure, r3inlpgm plays a role here

... that sets all of them ...

What release are you talking of ?

As you talk on the dtaara, that is changed already, I would assume, that either the profiles are still wrong or the /usr/sap/trans/config/sid entries (only below 7.0) - and I do not think, that the config would be pretty relevant for the EnvVars ...

Hi Volker,

Thanks for such a quick response.

We are 6.4 - I copied the profiles in /sapmnt/trans/config/sid/*.cfg to give a new prefix of the new host name and changed the host name in these files as well as changed SYSTEM.CFG host. I also changed the DEFAULT.PFL to be the correct host name in /usr/sap/Sid/SYS/profile/DEFAULT.PFL

Hi David,

did you change the start profile as well ?

You should adjust the system number in the instance profile as well.

In 6.40 in my eyes, the dtaara R3REE400/R3_07 is still in use:

Wert

Offset *.......1.......

0 'DVEBMGSs2qa

50 '

100 '

Did you really change the contents to the new data ? (here: s2qa)

Hi Volker,

Thanks - R3_07 does not exist. I am only logging on and not even trying to start the instance yet. What in the start profile needs to be changed ?

Hi David,

at least "everything" !

=> you need to rename the profiles to the new server

=> you need to change all contents of the profiles to the new server

(especially SAPDBHOST in the default profile)

Hi Volker,

I ended the system to restricted state and renamed the '/sapmnt/SID/profile' directory out of the way and when I signed on as SidOFR the SAPDBHOST variable still shows the old host name. Is there anywhere else in the kernel this is referenced or does R3INLPGM read a database file from the R3sidDATA library to see a host name ?

Hi

The solution is not to take a copy, CR3..., of your data areas in R3sid400 especially if the name is alphabetically before the real data area name R3...; R3INLPGM must read the first data area it comes across to set SAPDBHOST - doh
