HI,

My suggestion is that not to start the sapinst from /tmp location. either mount the installatin media /mnt or dump it anyware either at location hard drive or NFS shared.

also check the gui working by running the xclock utility.

Hi ,

I have extracted all DVDs in another system & mounted to this system using NFS to this Linux system.

under /tmp/inst_temp is just temporary installation directory.

Previously in all installation (HPUX) PARISC & IA I never faced this type of error. This is the first time I am doing

installation in Linux. Xclock is working fine.

O/P of xclock gives warning : Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion

( Do I need to take any action on this error ?)

I have tried with the option startInstGui.sh option but still the status is same.

Yes, I know. This is why I'm asking you, if you have disabled SELinux. If it is running, disable it.

Boss,

We are not using SELinux . We are using Redhat 5.0.

What should I disable pl. clarify.

Dear Subodh,

SELinux is a security technology which is delivered with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0!

You can check, if it is enabled/disabled by executing the following command as root user:

getenforce

it should display disabled or permissive. If it shows enforcing, disable it.

Provide the details as follows.

ls -ld /tmp

remove all the files and folder from /tmp/* then reboot the system and run the gui either at console or thru vnc

try once more sapinst

also share the details of vnc config file.

Hi Manish,

Might be this will help you as this is the senarios which is being used by me for sap instalation.

First logon to server with root user.

check the vnc server rpm as follows. If it's not there then install it.

rpm -qa | grep vnc

vnc-server-XXXXXX

now set the vnc server password

vncpasswd

now start the vncserver

vncserver

Let go for vncserver config file editing.

vi the following file

/root/.vnc/xstartup

file before editing will be as follows

#!/bin/sh

  1. Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:

#unset SESSION_MANAGER

exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

#[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup

#[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources

xsetroot -solid grey

vncconfig -iconic &

xterm -geometry 80x241010 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &

twm &

File after editing with be as follows.

#!/bin/sh

  1. Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:

unset SESSION_MANAGER

exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

#[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup

[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources

xsetroot -solid grey

vncconfig -iconic &

xterm -geometry 80x241010 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &

gnomestart &

Save and exit from the file and kill the vncserver session.

vncserver -kill :1

:1 will be the process of vncserver.

now run the vncserver again

vncserver

open the vnc session from any windows machine by using the vncviewer

go to the installation path and run the xclock to check the gui working

Now start the sap installation via /PATH/sapinst

Martin,

this could be ...

Subodh:

Starting GuiServer using:

/usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2/bin/java ...

this ^^ is the java call from your SAPINST. On my RHEL5 system this file belongs to:

# rpm -qf /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2/bin/java
java-1.4.2-gcj-compat-1.4.2.0-40jpp.115

which might not work with SAPINST .... I'd give the IBM 1.4.2 JVM a try ...

Hi Hannes ,

We have installed IBM Java 1.4.2

The same have been mentioned below:

Yes,

because you have not changed the PATH and the JAVA_HOME variable. The IBM JDK rpm does not change the java binary from the gcj installation. You have to tell SAPINST, that SAPINST uses the correct (IBM) java binary.

This means, that you have to change the $PATH variable to include the IBM java binary path before the gckj path. Also, set $JAVA_HOME to the IBM JDK, which is located under /opt/IBMjdk... somewhere.

Hannes

This is not a real problem, I get that too.

The GUI can't be started because the DISPLAY doesn't point to a valid X-Server or the X-Server does not accept connections from this host.

> root@bpcides inst]# env | grep DISPLAY

> DISPLAY=10.72.47.36:0.0

At this place, can you e. g. start another X application - such as "xdpyinfo" - or "xclock" and does it open?

This is your problem, there are libraries missing. This is a known problem when using the default installation.

Please follow

I suggest you read (again)

Note 1048303 - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x: Installation and upgrade

which tells you, what development packages must be installed.

<quote>

You can also install or reinstall a package or a package group at a later point (after registering your system in Red Hat Network) with the following commands, provided that your system can access Red Hat Network via the officially supported ways (directly or via RHN Proxy or RHN Satellite):

o Development Libraries (for Oracle databases)

o Development Tools (for Oracle databases)

There's a view to be created where the base tables are not existing.

What Oracle version and patchlevel are you using?

Hello,

at any case, you should verify in the package logs and tsk files whether the base table J_1AAA2 was really already properly imported. Although SAPVIEW is one of the last packages to be loaded, I have seen cases where a migmon ingnored package errors and proceeded to SAPVIEW.

Best Regards,

Michael

Dear Michael,

Thanks for your reply.

We checked at oracle level this

table (J_1AAA2) does not exist at db level. But table is part of

packages SAPAPPL2_3 . We tried to import manually throuch script

(mentioned below) but it's failed.

All ERROR details mentione dbelow :

Pl. suggest do we need to import this table ? If it's so pl. advice the

Dear Subodh,

your issue seems to be relatively complicated and tricky. You might consider to open an standard customer call at SAP via OSS. You then have access to the developers. Maybe it's a real bug and there is no solution yet?

Thanks,

Make sure the permissions in /tmp/temp match those recommended by the install guide and set the DISPLAY variable.
