Is there any alternative to DMS?

Hi DMS experts,

I have few questions for you.

1) Does SAP charge any licence fee for using DMS? does it come along with R/3 or do we need any additional request to have it?

2) Are Vault, server, Archive the storage types in DMS?

3) Where are original doc files stored in DMS does this use SAP database?

4) What is Kpro? Is Kpro a storage location outside SAP database?

5) Is Kpro a SAP's own storage server or what ever you call it?

6) What are other options if we are not intrested to use DMS?

please help with the answers.

wht ever the document is, to make a DIR.........doc type is a must.

u classify your document types based on

1. Network status

2. inetrnal number/external number range

3. Classification

4. object link

5. Version management

For EH&S there is only SAP DMS. You can create an ArchiveLink object for storing documents using document archiving, but it does not existing standard for some odd reason. I think its because the EH&S solution was originally developed by an outside company and then purchased by SAP.

a2. yes they are the storage types

a3. Vault if u r using, they will be stored in ur R/3 database, if u are using a seperate server.....then they will be stored in a seperate repository

a4. Kpro, is something like a storage type...........seperate installation have to be made for this .......u can use redling funcationality by using Kpro.
