I wander what resides in /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGSnn/exe.

It looks like kernel files, but they are not kernel as the content of directory is /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run is not same

I guess, global and local executables directory concept is being used here.

If you have dialog instance then SAPCPE.exe copies executables from usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run to /usr/sap/<SID>/Dnn/exe folder and for local installation some soft links from /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGSnn/exe is used to access the run directory
