KM Navigation iVews - Dynamic URL?

Former Member

Hi,

I would like the "Path" of the KM Navigation iView to be Dynamic.

When users access the portal with "English" browser language they will get English menu items, iView names etc. However, I would then also like the KM nav. iView to point to a specific KM folder containing English documents only. Accessing the portal with a Norwegian language setting would then make the iView point to a KM folder with Norwegian documents and so on.

What is the easiest way to achieve this?

hi

Dont you have to have diferent roles for that?

In each role you define the path that you want.

Hi,

No, I see no point in having different roles for this purpose. As the role content is translated and no language info is stored on the user, the browser language will control the language of the end user menu structure.

I see three possible options for this:

1. Use metadata on the KM documents themselves and let the resource renderer or some other mechanism filter the content to display.

2. Create two diffeent KM nav. iViews pointing to different KM folders. Develop a PCD filter that swaps the iViews to include in the workset based on language settings.

3. Some sort of mechanism that allows the path in the iView itself to be dynamic....

Any thoughts on this?

Hi Tomas,

the best approach in my opinion would be the last one you have mentioned. Check out this thread dealing with the same request: https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=112095

This solution approach is actually also Detlevs session proposal for the TechEd Amsterdam named Implementing Dynamic iView Properties. So if you plan to visit the TechEd maybe that would be a great choice for the TechEd Session Votings. And even if you can't wait until then, by "forcing" Detlev to prepare this session for TechEd with your vote, I'm sure he would be happy to support you to achieve this tasks with some demo code in advance.

Hope this helps,

Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your answer. I guess I'll check out the proxy iView option.

I gave you some points.
