Complete backup after upgrade 7.7.06

Hi, We upgraded our AIX LIvecache to 7.7.06 and now we have a problem running a complete backup to tape while the system is online, In our past release this was not an issue. If we put the system in admin state we don't have the problem. Does anyone know if this is restriction? If so is there away to have the job RSLVCBACKUP put the livecace in admin state and perform backup, then put the LIvecache back online?

Here is the what we get when running RSLVCBACKUP interactive

Logical Command: DBMCLI

Parameter: -d QLC -n 192.168.10.22 -tpi QAP -tpc LCA -tpp no_longer_used

-uUTL -c backup_start Tape RECOVERY DATA AUTOIGNORE

ERR

-24988,ERR_SQL: SQL error

-903,Host file I/O error

3,Data backup failed

Servertask Info: because Error in backup task occured

Job 1 (Backup / Restore Medium Task) [executing] WaitingT197 Result=3700

Error in backup task occured, Error code 3700 "hostfile_error"

Backupmedium #1 (/dev/rmt0) mismatch: checked and expected type

Backup error occured, Error code 3700 "hostfile_error"

External program terminated with exit code 255

HI Brian,

it's a plain bug!

Check [SAP Support note 1364629 - Backup/recovery via tape fails on Unix|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bc_db/~form/handler%7b5f4150503d3030323030363832353030303030303031393732265f4556454e543d444953504c4159265f4e4e554d3d31333634363239%7d]

Since this had been put out as HOTNEWS you should have known this...

Make sure to check https://service.sap.com/hotnews regularly!

Lars

I was able to create 12 files -

Is there a parameter to increase the file size - maybe on the AIX side?

Hi again,

ok, so as I understand you, you created a parallel backup medium, where each file is below 2GB, right?

And in order to do that, you neededs to increase the parameter value so that 12 parallel backup mediums could be used.

Ok, sofar.

Now the question is, how you can enable the large file support for your system.

This depends on where the limitation is set.

Maybe you just need to set the appropriate mount option for the filesystem you're saving the backups to.

Or maybe you need to change the userlimits for the sdb-user.

Check sap note #628131 -Betriebssystemparameter SAP DB / MaxDB unter Unix for this.

Disregard my last comments - I needed to increase the MaxBackupMedia -

Thank You for your help

Hi Brian,

that's awkward. The MaxBackupMedia parameter has nothing to do with the ability of the filesystem to handle large files...

I did not have my filters set correctly for the hotnews -

I read the note and tried to do a complete backup to file I get an error

125 RTEIO no retry of writing on /papbackup/lcup.sdb since position unknown,ERRORTEXT=File too large,ERROR_NUMBER=27

The DEV Space on the AIX is only 27% full -

I tried leaving the template without a size and also giving a size of 20 gig - No matter what I set to it stiops at 2GIG.

Any idea how to get around the 2 Gig limit?

Thanks,

Brian
