Change request management

Hi !

It is actually quite hard to find some information about change request management capabilities of Solution Manager.

Does anyone use this functionality?What can we exactly do ? Monitoring? Workflows?...

I heard about Quality Gate too, what is the purpose?

If anyone has some information/customizing doc, links..., I'll be really interested.

Bonjour Julien,

If you have an OSS ID (S number) you can log on to [http://service.sap.com/rkt|http://service.sap.com/rkt]

There in the left navigation pane find solution manager and pick your version of solman.

You'll find lots of pdf guide as well as SAPTUTOR files.

Thanks for all these links! This is really great !

If my understanding is good:

-CHARM is for creating approval workflows with change request. We are able to define scenarios with schedule manager/maintenance cycles.

-Quality Gate allow to define some extra approval before change request go into production

Am I right?

Thats right Julien. Charm functionaly gives you transparent view of all the changes that you perform in the system, even if there is no transport request exists.

Hi Julien,

ChaRM is the standard change and request management feature within SolMan (as it looks like you know quite well now) and Quality Gate is a feature that assists with unifying transport requests created in independent systems (e.g ECC, BW, EP) to ensure they are kept together and transported together.

As far as I am aware, ChaRM and Quality Gate are not integrated at all at this point in time - although it is planned.

There are several experts in this area, one being John Krakowski of SAP in the US, He is an SAP Solution ManagerProduct expert and a quick web search should find him.

There is also a wealth of information about SAP Solution Manager and its components at the SAP Service Market SAP Support Portal. https://websmp205.sap-ag.de/support

There are of course third party change control technology alternatives and these can be found by running a quick search on change and request management at the SAP EcoHub.
