Datamart and Generic DataSources - BW Source System

If my source system is BW why would I prefer to create a generic extractor datasource rather than a datamart? Thanks

hi Niten,

we create generic datasource if it's not come from infoproviders (ods,cube) where generate export datasource may not possible.

e.g we need extract data from transparent table in bw, ods change etc.

just go with datamart whenever possible.

Hi Niten,

there may be a couple of reasons -

I can create Data Mart only on BW data targets while generic datasource can be created on table, view, function modules etc.

for example if you have a function module in BW & want to extract data based on that then you shall prefer generic datasource.

Thanks for that you are right I have looked at one of the Generic Extractors which is built on a function module. However the source is an ODS table so I was wondering why a data mart was not used in this scenario
