SAP APO PP/DS - default heuristic used when using SAP_MRP_001

I am using APO PP/DS release 5.1

When running the control heuristic SAP_MRP_001 for production planning, one can specify that the planning heuristic to be used for a given product can be taken from the product master, or from the heuristic defined on the settings for SAP_MRP_001.

But if neither of these are set, how is the 'default' planning heuristic determined.

I cannot see this defined in the 'global settings' for PP/DS.

Hi Austin,

Apart from product master and heuristic setting in customisation, you can also define your PPDS

heuristic setting during PPDS planning run using transaction /SAPAPO/CDPSB0.

You can set your heuristic and save as variant.

This variant will be called when you are executing transaction /SAPAPO/CDPSB1.

My question remains though, I think.

If for a production planning run, one specifies SAP_MRP_001 for a given product, and if there is no planning heuristic specified for the product on the product master, then what default planning heuristic will be used?

I think the answer is SAP_PP_002 (planning by standard lots), but I cannot see this default actually defined in SPRO.

Bob,

Default heuristic comes first from the Product master (which you already know). If this is not populated, then the default drops down to the Planning Procedure. IMG>Supply Chain Planning>PPDS>Global Settings>Maintain Planning Procedures.

Hi Austin,

If you select SAP_MRP_001 heuristic in production planning run, the system does

Product Planning (Comp. acc. LLevl Code) which is based on the algorithm

/SAPAPO/HEU_MRP_PLANNING.

Whereas as you specified, the heursitic SAP_PP_002 uses the logic

Planning of Standard Lots with algorithm /SAPAPO/HEU_PLAN_STANDARDLOTS.

The settings for both the heuristic are different.

Hence based on the heuristic that is selected (if say SAP_MRP_001, it will

execute its algorthm only), the heuristic function will be used for planning
