Alert container not populating

hi

i have defined an alert category and linked it to an event(business object:BUS2012,event'CHANGED') via transaction SWE2.

I am using FM 'SALRT_CREATE_VIA_EVENT' as receiver function module.I want to display PO number in alert message.For this I have defined container variable in tcode 'ALRTCATDEF'.

The alert is getting triggered but container variable is not getting populated.

we are not using XI.Can anyone suggest how to resolve this?

Have you used the correct parameter settings on the Properties tab?

How are you triggering this and pulling in the PO number?

what happens when you debug this?? can you see the value and it's not getting passed into the container?

Thanks alot for your response.Where should I specify parameters in "PROPERTIES TAB"?I dont see any field to specify paraeters.
