Gurus:

Have you compared HACMP with Oracle RAC? If so, could you share the difference and the similarity?

Thanks!

Hi Linda,

It has major difference. RAC based on Oracle Database cluster and HACMP based on Operating System based cluster.

Oracle RAC http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clustering/index.html

HACMP - http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/clresctr/vxrx/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.cluster.hacmp.doc/ha...

Hi Linda,

the major difference is that HACMP is a failover cluster with one active database instance and thus a single point of failure where RAC is an active/active cluster with two or more database instances and all of them are active.
