Are the permissions on the BR*TOOLS correct? Did you execute "saproot.sh <SID>" in the kernel directory after updating the tools?

Hi chandra

please check the following

1.Permission for the path where take the backup is happening

2.Size of the drive where you are taking the backup

please check the SAP note

Note 17163 - BRARCHIVE/BRBACKUP messages and codes

Request you to post the log

IS THIS ISSUE HAPPENING DAILY ?

Even if you run brbackup and brarchive together from DB13, there should be a separate log file for brarchive.

That's what I was talking about in my previous post.

Hi George,

Your are right but brarchive log not generating in DB13 it is giving following

Could not read detail log aebechvt.log

Message no. Q2304

Diagnosis

The system could not access or read the detail log.

System Response

Log not displayed.

Procedure

Check the operating system to determine whether the selected log exists and whether the R/3 System has permission to read this file.

Hello Chandra,

not sure to whom you are talking. My name is not George.

And yes, I know, the log of brarchive is not visible in DB13.

As I wrote above, you may either try DB12, or go to your saparch directory at operating system level.

Hi Joe,

I am taliking with you only, sorry for the wrong name mentioned, in saparch not having the brarchive log file, 2 days backs log is showing wich i have taken brarchive backup through brtools

Regards

Chandra

In this case probably there won't be a log in DB12 either.

So please try to start brarchive (redo log backup) only from DB13. Then there should be a more verbose log file.

even after scheduling only Redolog backup also getting same message

BRARCHIVE Action Log for Database BWQ

From: 05.08.2009 14:07:17

LogFile: aebefbtd.log

Return Code: 0003 Error during initialization

Database Host: pspdbwq

No action log for this action found in the database

Check the detail log

Not what I had expected. But anyway, another thing to check:

When you started brarchive from brtools, I suppose you did it as user ora<sid> ?

Compare permissions of programs brbackup and brarchive; if they differ, make them the same.

And another check: Did you check button 'Job logs' in DB13? I suppose what you posted is from 'Action logs'.

Former Member

You are correct, i have checked both are same

Former Member

And did you check button 'Job logs' in DB13?

Former Member

Yes i have selected check box for the BRARCHIVE verify option

Former Member

Chandra,

not sure if we are talking about the same things here.

Not sure what BRARCHIVE verify option actually is.

And what Markus is asking, is in essence the same as my question about permissions of brbackup and brarchive. For more clearness, please show output of ls -l command for brbackup and brarchive.

So where are your br*tools installed? Do it in that directory...

Ah,

it seems that's what we have been looking for:

BR0181E Option '-cds' not supported for 'disk'

And that should be self-explaining.

Don't choose brarchive option -cds, but somethind different, like -sd

Well, permissions are not the same.

rws, and rwx, you see?

The clean solution is saproot.sh, as suggested by Markus.

A quick and dirty solution also could be:

chmod 4775 brarchive

hope this helps

i am trying from the sidadm to change permesions as u mentioned it saying that "chmod: brarchive: Operation not permitted"

Former Member
0 Kudos

Of course not.

root or ora<sid>

Former Member

It is alowing from the orasid, so which funciton option i need to select whether SS or SD

Former Member
0 Kudos

It depends on what you need.

brarchive options are explained somewhere in the manual, search for it!

-ss doesn't make sense for disk backups, like -cds

-s will copy to new directory

-sd will copy to new directory and delete from oraarch

Or go to Unix prompt and type:

brarchive -h

Hi Joe,

It has been solved by giving 4775 permissions to brarchive, Thank you verymuch to providing good solution, and also thanks to Markus.

Hi Chandra,

Please post the BRARCHIVE logs.

You should be able to find more information in the log file of brarchive, in saparch directory.

You should also be able to view it in transaction DB12.

hope this helps
