Could some one explain me the difference between an IDOC and Message type please? Thanks.
Mohan Ram,
This is not to confuse you. But, there is another thing called IDoc Type.
IDoc Type and IDoc can be compared as a class and its instance.
IDoc Type is the class, where as IDoc is an instance of the particular IDoc type.
Apart from the above two, Message Type(in this context) tells the application.
As Michael told Message Type tells the type of data thats being carried by an IDoc.

Hi,
IDOC is a container - it has segments, fields
and
Message type (from the IDOC perspective) is:
Within the IDoc interface the logical message type is used only for control purposes. It points to one or more IDoc types, which are the data formats. The names of logical message types are adapted in part from the names of the relevant EDIFACT message types.
