sap xi installation

hi ,

I'm a beginner in sap xi. i want to install sap xi 7.0/7.1 server on my desktop. please let me know what is the configuration needed to install it. i have intel pentium 4 2.4 Ghz, intel 845, 1.25 GB Ram DDR1, 80 GB hard disk.

Dear Girish,

For Installing SAP PI 7.0/7.1 you must have 80gb hard disk and 2.8 pentium processor and 2gb ram.These are the minimum requirements for PI 7.0/7.1

Can i install SAP XI 7.0/7.1 with intel pentium IV 2.4 GHz processor and 2GB DDR1 RAM. Please let me also know if there are any other (must & should) requirements.

I'll try now installling xi server on my desktop. currently i'm working in SAP EP and just begun in SAP XI. my last question is that can i install SAP EP(sneak preview edition) and SAP XI both on same system. do i need to use same SAP WAS for both?

Dear Girish,

You can use same system for both.But you have to keep the availability space for both the components. It could be better if you are going to install each one as separate.Its my suggestion only.

You can use same WAS for both EP and XI.

My friend who works in XI has installed SAP XI 7.0 on his system (win server2003). When i gave http://hostname:portno/irj/portal on his system it opened the sap netweaver portal. I logged in thru the SAP XI admin credentials only. my confusion here is , does EP come default when we install SAP Web AS in our system?. and also i logged in using same credentials as sap netweaver admin with url http://hostname:portno/irj/index.html which is meant for admin configuration and other stuff.

Hi Girish,

Portal shold not come with XI installation, until unless he install. He might be having only the start page, but not the whole functionality. You can try a simple tutorial like creating a iview or webdypro page and see.

The other url you will get with xi installation because as you mentioned it is used for administration purposes. In latest versions you can manage your j2ee engine from here also.

hello Girish,

-->EP will not come as default.

-->While installing you need manually select the components to be installed.

-->While Installing you will select WEB AS ABAP and WEB AS JAVA along with that you need to select EP and XI/PI.

-->But the post installation steps will different for the both.

I checked creating iviews and roles. it worked. actually some professional sys admin has installed it. i logged in with XI admin credentials and after logging in, it showed 'welcome exchange infrastruture administrator'. thats why i got confused. because he has

given same user id and password everywhere. url to open xi page is http://hostname:portno/rep/start/index.php and for EP, it is http://hostname:portno/irj/portal. so i wanted make sure that if we get sap netweaver xi/pi dvd, can we install EP also with that or it is a different component. thanks for the information.
