Hi! All
Can you explain about Higher-level item category and item usage?
Regards,
SRK
Hi,
Higher level item category is the item category of Main item.
Higher level item category is used in BOM and Free Goods, where in sub items refer to higher level item category for determination.
Eg. BOM (Bill of Materials)
Computer is main item and sub items would be Monitor, keyboard, mouse etc.
In this Computer as a finished product will have main item category. And monitor, keyboard will be treated as sub items.
So while determining item category for these sub items, system will consider item category of computer as Higher level item category, sales doc type, item category group and usage.
USAGE - is also one of the parameters for item category determination.
Hope you get some idea
regards,
Sagar

Hi,
ITEM USAGE: Item usuage is one of the criterial to determine the Item category during the sales order processing .
Usage of item tell how the item will be used i.e.., as TEXT ITEM, VALUE ITEM, SEVICE ITEM, etc
HIGHER LEVEL ITEMS: These are the items for which we create a sub item, this is also one of the criterial to determine the item category .
Please let me know if you need any frther clarification

suppose you are giving pencil free with pen.
Then in this, item category of pen (tan) is considered higer level item category for calculating item category of free item (tann).
Also, free is used in this case as item usage to arrive at item category tann.
