I've recently installed NetWeaver CE 7.1 SP8 using JSPM, which seemed to go fine with several restarts, accesses to the nwa, etc. After starting application testing restarts began hanging with jstart.EXE indicating "Synchronizing binaries" in the sapmmc. I've tried starting NetWeaver several times, have tried using the command line interfaces to start, have rebooted the machine, and still have the problem. There's nothing in the logs to help; these are the only entries that give any sense of what's going on, but no specific errors that I can see:
C:\usr\sap\CE1\J05\work\sapstartsrv.log

How can I resolve this?

Hi
check your services file in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
You should see a whole list of SAP services. Make sure it also has the following entry :
sapmsSID 3600/tcp

RESOLVED!
Looking in C:\sapdb\data\wrk\CE1\DIAGHISTORY\CE1_20090803_23-42-33\knldialog saw a lot of entries like this:
2009-08-03 21:56:42 0xBF8 WRN 20056 Log LOG FULL: task 86 suspended.
The resolution steps are:
Invoke dbmcli, which is available in Start -> programs -> MaxDB
Respond to these prompts:
Enter server name: <Enter the host name>
Enter database name: CE1
Enter user for authorization: control
Enter password:
Run the following command in dbmcli:
db_execute SET LOG AUTO OVERWRITE ON exit command to exit dbmcli
NetWeaver again starts normally.

Having re-installed NetWeaver I've continued my testing and hit the problem again. Based on this re-occurrence it looks like it's related to our Ant-driven telnet installation of one of our test ear files. This is the output from Ant:
[exec] [telnet] ?[37;0m Telnet Administration
[exec] [telnet] ?[37;0m SAP Java EE Application Server v7.10

[exec]
[exec] BUILD FAILED
[exec] C:\BuiltJDE\CuramSDEJ\bin\app_runtimenas.xml:221: Response timed-out waiting for "deployment status: Success"
It times out and then I cannot access NetWeaver via sapmmc launched telnet.
Unfortunately I restarted NetWeaver before realizing it's the same problem again. If anyone has any idea what this might be let me know.
Thanks,
William

Ok, ran a netstat and you may found that it was looking at a gateway on another SAP server on our network. So remove that server from the host file and services file. This allowed it to continue the Synchronizing Binaries stage.
It then had memory issues, but I have got around that.
thank you,
Bharathi ch.

Since I was not able to resolve this I went ahead and uninstalled NetWeaver and re-installed it. So far I have gotten further in my testing than I had previously, which is a good sign. Will see how things go.
Thanks to everyone for the input, I appreciate it.

It looks like Note 723909 is superceded by "Note 1248926 - AS Java VM Parameters for NetWeaver 7.1 based products" in this case and says:
"
All parameters are pre-set in the template provided with the installation content according to the recommendations from the product owners and development teams. It should generally not be necessary to modify the configuration in order to have a properly configured system, however specific performance tuning measures may be considered if the system usage pattern is very specific. We aim to provide continuous improvements to the configuration that is suitable for all available scenarios.
"
So, I'm not sure there's anything to change in this case; that is, I didn't make any explicit change preceding this failure.
Thanks,
William

Here's std_bootstrap.out, I'll post the other two as separate replies because the code formatting doesn't seem to work with them, they may not be readable:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc didn't have the "sapmsSID 3600/tcp" entry, but adding it doesn't seem to have made any difference even after a reboot.
Looking at the logs as per Note [https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=1095476] I'm still seeing no error.
I tried to post log data; but, for some reason it breaks the code formatting and winds up being unreadable. I've reviewed all the recent logs now in some detail (list below) and there's nothing of any kind of error that I can see. Nothing looks relevant in any of the non-zero length stderr files. Both jvm_bootstrap.out and log_bootstrap.0.log end with:

check these 3 files..this should point you towards the error.. if there are any errors reported any of the files, then paste the error part.
Regards,
Debasis.
Never mind that last posting of mine as that connection refused situation looked to be a one off as I restarted Netweaver and don't see it. The logs again don't point to anything specific.
I saw this thread with same symptoms and was never resolved:
But, maybe a Java trace would help; I'll look into how I can turn that on.

Thanks for the replies to my question. I'm not sure how to post up a zip of the work directory with the logs, but looking at the latest logs in there this in dev_jstart.1 looks to be the likely cause:

I'm not sure what this means as I'm not familiar with the ports used by NetWeaver. This is a Windows 2003 64-bit server and it's a single NetWeaver instance, it should not be communicating with anything outside of this box.
Let me know if this more specific error suggests anything to you.
