Can anyone refer me to a document that states if SAP PI 7.0 (SP13) supports Implicit FTPs. I've found the following entry
but I want to be 100% sure before I speak to my customers. OSS provides very little information, note 821267 doesn't mention it, SAP help doesn't either. A search of the forums provides very little detail on FTPs. So before I raise an OSS note I thought I would come to SDN. Your help is appreciated.

SAP have confirmed via OSS that the explicit FTPs is the only method used.

Richard,
As far as I'm aware there isn't a public OSS note available, when I mentioned OSS in my posting I should have said 'Customer Message'. Anyway, I've pasted the outcome below..

Thanks for the information. I would just like to point out that I searched the RFC 4217 spec and the word explicit does not appear. If I could make a suggestion - why not include this information in SAP help so everyone can find it.

Dear customer,
Our File adapter developer confirmed that Implicit FTPS is not supported by the file adapter. Instead, the file Adapter is based on explicit FTPS as per the RFC 4217 specification. Implicit negotiation is not defined in RFC-4217 For more information, please view the following link:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4217 (Securing FTP with TLS)

Rob,
PI only support FTPS which follows specification RFC 4217 (from sap help). So you can see the specifications for this portocol on net. You can also see the help for this SP here:

Satish,
Thanks for pointing me towards the help document! That is the first place I looked. SAP refer to the spec RFC 4217 and there is a document on the internet that describes it in detail. http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4217.txt Firstly it doesn't mention the words explicit or implicit and secondly it's open to interpritation. I would be interest to know how SAP interpreted it and what they actually implemented. My link to another posting in SDN indicates that implicit isn't supported but I need clarification. I would have thought SAP would have included that in the help documentation but thats probably too much to ask.
If there is anyone that has any experience with this issue I would be interested to hear from them.
