Oracle 10g installation in server where already Oracle 9 exist.

Hi,

We are planning to install Solution Manger 7.0 in UAT server where already R/3, BW and Portal are installed.

R/3, BW and Portal are installed with Oracle 9 in this server. Now, I am going to install Solution manger 7.0 with Oracle 10g.

My question is, if I install Oracle10g in the same server, it will affect of the oracle 9 systems.

Is there any special prerequisite for in this scenario?

All the application database are installed under /Oracle directory.

Please suggest on this to proceed the installation.

Regards,

Vamsheedhar.

Just as a remark: you're aware that Oracle 9 is out of support already?

Not if you do it "correctly"

> Is there any special prerequisite for in this scenario?

Read the installation guide and install Oracle using "RUNINSTALLER" (not runInstaller)

> All the application database are installed under /Oracle directory.

Don't know what you mean with that...

Hi Markus,

Thanks for the reply.

Don't know what you mean with that...

I mean under /oracle directory all the sub directories are created for individual applications for example.

/oracle/QAS/920_64

/oracle/PQA/920_64

/oracle/TBW/920_64

/oracle/SLM/102_64

Here SLM is the Solution Manager SID.

Here under directory /oracle the below files are there.

so a new installation will create

/oracle/<newSID>/102_64.

Please look at my post.

I wrote:

/oracle/<newSID>/102_64

Markus,

You are right. It will create a new directory.

Just again asking for to get confidence on this.

While installing Oracle 10g, will it not overwrite the existing files of Oracle 9 under /oracle directory?

Hi,

What Marcus means in his reply is that whenever a new oracle database is installed, the executables and bin files will be created in its own oracle home directory.

In ur case, the oracle executables will be extracted in the directory /oracle/SLM/102_64.

Thanks Markus and Varadha.

The issue is resolved by changing path of oraInventory in the below file.

/var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc
