Possible solutions to perform stock netting on a plant location

We are investigating possible solution to perform stock netting on a plant location.

We are currently using variant materials (CDP), with location and characteristic substitution rules based ATP.

Our products have automatic planning (planning procedure = 3) as a requisite to perform CTP with CDP materials.

If a sales order item is booked on a distribution center the system performs ATP on the DC and then performs CTP on the production plant. The problem with this sequence is, as soon as the CTP is performed for one of the possible characteristic substitutions, it does not check the other possible options. This means that stock can exist for another characteristics but the CTP process does not consider it. We could try to minimize this by using several calculation profile rules, but it does not solve 100% of the cases.

We would like to perform, as a second step of the RBA, an ATP in the production plant with characteristics substitution, and then only CTP. The problem here, is that ATP does not create any Stock transfer order from the mill to the DC.

There is a scenario of Stock Transfer with the Rules-Based ATP Check, but according to documentation we need to use a planning procedure = 5, and the CTP process should not be active.

Our question is, can we somehow have the same behavior, but taking into consideration variant materials with automatic planning procedure and characteristics substitution, or should we somehow try to enhance the CTP class to solve this problem.

Johannes,

Well, I have never tried it, but it should be possible.

Set your Check instructions activate RBA; start immediately. Set Start production to 0 Availability check only; Production time to 0 after executing all basic methods.

Philosophy is to perform all product checks first, using Consolidation in the rule (consolidate in DC). Loop around all your possible product/location possibilities performing ONLY product checks (do not execute production). For every 'hit', you will get a Stock Transport order.

Last rule to be executed, after checking for stocks/excess receipts, is to do a location determination, with consolidation, and the activity 1 availability check first, then production, production time 0 after executing all basic methods.(CTP). For the planned order, you will also get a STO to move the proceeds to the DC. You don't need to use PP 5, stick with 3 to support CTP.

Lotsa lotsa variations of the above, depending on your business requirements.
