Hi Guys,

We had PI 7.1 installed on SQL Server 2005 and we are building a production server and we are getting the licensed version of MaxDB from SAP to build the production server.

Our transaction volume is not very huge. Does any body give us the inputs regaridng the support from sap and how difficult to deal problems with this DB or diff exeriences with MaxDB.

we are planning to install PI 7.1 on windows server 64 bit platform. any ideas or suggestions would be really appreciated

Thanks,

Srini

We run a lot of our systems on MaxDB, especially our main ERP 6.04 with 2,6 TB, BI 7.0 with about 1 TB and several other production systems (CRM, SRM, SCM, PI 7.1...)

The support is very good.

I would ONLY go for 64bit Unicode systems.

Hi Markus,

Thanks for your quick response. Once we get the licensed version from SAP, do we need to pay anything addittional for support or Is it included? How much would be the licensed version of MaxDB?

Thanks,

Srini

The SAP license fee is (usually - but depending on your contract differently) a one time license fee and then a certain % amount of maintenance depending on the database used.

With PI it's a bit different, if not changed, PI is charged in amount of data sent to external adapters (out of your company) plus an annual license fee.

I suggest you contact your sales rep for more exact information, this may have changed meanwhile and if you don't have other SAP products you may have a total different contract.

MaxDB is in terms of maintenance for the database the most cost effective solution, Oracle is the most expensive one.

Hi Markus,

Do you have any idea on the back up and recovery tools. Are there any tools available within MaxDB?

Thanks,

Srini

We use EMC/Legato Networker - but there are also clients from HP Data Protector, TSM/Tivoli and other backup tools.
