Hi,

General item category grp we are using in the sales processes like Bill Of Material (BOM), where we have higher item category and the default item categories.

General item category grp would refer to the higher level item category and item category grp would refer to the default item category

General Item category Group is an extension item category group. Example: if one select item catagory group as NORM, but under item category group, NORM can further be classified as Service item, packagaing item or Normal

item using "general item category group".

Also, General item category group is maintained at client level, this field can be maintain from Basic Data View of Material Master. Thus in case item category group is missing, then general item category group is used for item category determination.

Item category group determines how a material is processed in the sales order. When processing sales and distribution

documents, the system uses the item category group to determine the item category and proposes it in the respective document. Item category group is defined in the Sales Org View 2 of Material Master Record.

Example, in the standard SAP System, the item category group NORM is defined for materials kept in stock and the group DIEN for services and non-stock material

Best Regards,

Deepak

Hi,

Item Cat Group is Sales Org,Plant,Distribution Channel Specific where as Gen Item Cat Group is not.

Consider the following scenario----- You have two Distribution Channels 88, 89 having the following assignments.

1)Sales Org:8888,DC--88,Plant--8888

2)Sales Org:8888,DC--89,Plant--8888

You have two customers A and B

A is created under 8888,88,88 and B is created under 8888,89,88

You have a material XYZ which is supplied to A thruough internal production and to B through external procurement.

In this scenario the same material should behave as a normal item and a third party item for A and B respectively.

So create the material XYZ and give 8888,8888,88,88 and keep item cat group as norm.

Create the same material by copying from XYZ and give 8888,8888,89,88 and keep item cat group as bans

Now when you raise a sales order for customer A ,you will find that the item category will be tan. and for customer B it will be tas.

Hope this will answer your query.

Phani prasad.

Hi

The "General Item category group" is used for Inbound delivery (MM area).

"Item category group" is valid for respective Distribution chain (Sales organisation + Distribution channel), which is also used in the Item category determination.

General Item category group tells you how the material is categorized , item category group (sales org 2)tells how the material is categorizedfor that combination of sales org and distribution channel,
